Food Review: IHOB

Writer: Khrystal JacksonKhrystal Jackson

I was extremely intrigued once I heard that IHOB was changing their name. There were rumors going around stating what the new name would mean for the company, but I didn't put much energy into them. Once IHOB confirmed that the "b"stood for burgers, I took my fiancee to IHOB immediately!

I was a little disappointed once I pulled up and realized that IHOB didn't actually change their name. They "claimed" that they were changing their name on Social Media, but they didn't even change one bit of their signage! Trust me, I know that changing their name legally would have been a lengthy and expensive process, but I was hoping that they would at least attempt to fake it on the burger menu....

Burgers have been my favorite food since I was a child. There is something enjoyable about putting meat between two pieces of bread. It's so simple, yet so delicious... I've had my fair share of restaurant burgers and know that every burger isn't made equally. I was eager to see where the IHOB burger made it on my list of top restaurant burgers.

The menu design was clean and featured pictures of all of the burgers (along with the price and description). I wanted to get the Cowboy BBQ Burger at first, but I quickly got turned off once I saw how big the onion rings that came on the burger were. After careful consideration I decided to get the Jalapeno Kick Burger. All of the burgers come with unlimited fries and a free drink. I decided to get a Splasher (a sweet drink mixed with strawberries, lemonade, pineapple juice, and Sprite) and was delighted to see that there was no up-charge for it. It's all about the small things...

I was really looking forward to eating this burger, but I didn't have big expectations after looking at the menu. The burgers looked good, but the patties looked smaller than the patties served in other restaurant's such as TGIF and Applebee's.

The plate was small. The burger was small. And the portions of fries looked small as well.

All that being said, It was the best burger I've had in a long time! I could not believe how flavorful this burger was! There were so many great parts of the burger, it may take me a while to break it all down. The bread was fresh and glistening with butter. I have never had a burger cooked this well before. The server didn't ask how I wanted the burger cooked, the cooks just took it upon themselves to cook it miraculously. The jalapeno mayo was not spicy, but it gave the burger some added flavor. The cut of beef was good, definitely an upgrade from a fast-food burger. The bacon was INCREDIBLE!

The menu stated that bacon was custom cured.... but I didn't think it would taste that good! It was so flavorful and once again, it was cooked perfectly. Not too flimsy, but it also wasn't burnt to a crisp. The lettuce and tomatoes were just filler, but the Serrano/Jalapenos/Onion sauteed blend is that really gave the burger flavor! The peppers gave the burger the perfect amount of kick. I enjoy spicy foods, but this burger wasn't even spicy, it was just packed full of flavor.

I could barely finish my burger. In the beginning, I was worried that the burger wouldn't be big enough to satisfy my hunger... But boy was I wrong! The one characteristic I thought I would hate about the burger, actually ended up being one of my favorite characteristics.... The patty was smaller than other restaurants, but that allowed me to easily eat it without having to awkwardly cut it in half with a knife. I have learned that huge burger patties are over-rated and that it is all about the contents of the burger... Not just the outside appearance.
